LOCAL SIGHTS – DESTINATIONS

Kokkino Horio is a place of great strategic importance due to its geographical position. As it controls the entire Souda bay until Rethimno, it was chosen by the Germans during WWII (1940-45) to serve as their headquarters.
You can visit the gallery that was used as a military facility in the village of Agios Georgios and also enjoy the beautiful view of Souda bay. |

What is more, it was in Kokkino Horio that several scenes of the internationally famous and much beloved film "Alexis Zorbas" had been filmed.
